Last spring’s massive flood was just the latest blow to small businesses in the heart of Fort McMurray. This one came on the heels of the big fire, the oil downturn and Covid restrictions on commercial activity.
Now the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo is spending $200 million on flood remediation and prevention. We’ll meet local business owners who were flooded out last spring, but who now see new hope in the community response that is underway.
And we’ll see how the town’s community network – through social media such as dedicated facebook groups, are providing groups support and early warnings in case of future flooding.
