Of all communities in Canada, Fort McMurray has had the most challenging time in the past few years. Economic crisis in the oil patch, devastating fire and flood, and a slow response to Covid immunization have all contributed to a big spike in alcohol and drug abuse, and depression.
But the residents of Fort McMurray are resilient. New efforts are being made by a local mental health support groups to improve internet connectivity so that outreach support can help those who are in greatest need. It’s a tough road but the community is dedicated to winning this battle.
