Metis carpenters first came to the Peace Country to build scows, sometimes known as York Boats, to carry food and trade goods up and down the mighty Athabasca River.
Now the McMurray Metis are building a new cultural centre, complete with traditional gardens with medicinal herbs and vegetables. And they are building a new scow that will soon navigate the river in the traditional ways.
As they build a new cultural center in the city, the McMurray Metis are excited at the opportunity to show the world their cultural history in a Growing Concerns video story.
